Brentusfirmus knitting

So, here (finally) is the result of the knitting competition: two lovely soft dice! These were madly knitted on the 30th and 31st of December, because the photo had to be submitted before January 1 2007. So I knit like crazy all through a New Year's Eve party and at 11:45pm, they were done.
Then I learned that the due date had been extended to the 7th. Oh well.

Okay, so I entered a knitting competition where you pay 8 euros and they send you 150g of wool, which you then have to use to knit something that cannot be considered an item of clothing. I found this a very thrilling idea, and so I paid my 8 euros and waited excitedly for my package to arrive. It arrived yesterday. Here's a photo:
Now, maybe opinions differ, but I have to say that I'm not particularly inspired by this collection. I handed it around at a rehearsal last night and asked what people thought - the most practicable response I got when I asked what I could knit with this was "Hmmm...maybe a public toilet?" I thought of what other things could be knit with primarily pond-scum green, and we eventually decided on something fishy... maybe a fish pillow or a mermaid or something.

I think I'll knit a pair of love-struck armadillos.

So, here's my newest project! It's a "DNA scarf", which has a double helix cable pattern running up the centre. You can see a picture of the finished product here. I'm very excited, it's my first cable pattern and it's going really well. I plan to wear it under the white collar on my church robes on those cold winter mornings when I have to sing. There's a neurologist in the choir who's already quite jealous!

Welcome visitor, to my knitting blog! Here's where I'll be posting on my trials and tribulations in the world of knitting. To start, just some pictures of the way things currently stand.


Here is a picture of my current wool "stash". This is the result of having come back from Australia, and subsequently visiting a craft fair in Den Bosch a couple of weeks ago. There are some beautiful wools here - that vertical row on the left is all yarn made especially for knitting socks that I ordered from http://www.ewas-sockenwolle.de. Those two big bags are enough for a jumper for me and Michiel, and the black balls in the lower right are pure alpaca that I got from Estonia. I have nothing to add here except to say that this should keep me busy for the rest of the winter!






This is the project I'm currently working on. It's a technique I learned from G. at the craft fair, whereby you simultaneously knit two socks (or sleeves, or legwarmers, etc.) on only one long round knitting needle. It's slow going, but that's only because you have to do everything twice and the needles are so thin. Just imagine, getting to knit two heels, one right after the other! What bliss!








I've been doing mainly socks ever since I began knitting at the start of 2006. Here are two pairs of completed socks that I just had lying around. I don't have any more as I tend to give them away as presents! The light pair, however, is for me, just for having on around the house. The green/brown/yellow pair is a present, as are the blue socks above. But I'm not saying who for just yet, that's a surprise...
